Month Of Muharram

Muharram literally means "Forbidden". It is one of the four sacred months during which waging a war and fighting is not allowed.Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. It is based on the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
However, the use of the Hijri calendar began in AD 639  or 17 AH during the Khilafat of Syedna Umar Farooq (ra).

Time is indeed the greatest blessing of Allah (S.W.T), rolling diligently along its own pattern and set speed. Every New Year makes the one gone by, the past.Time will come and go but do we utilise in the best way we can?Time is very precious, once gone never comes back. There is no use of crying over spilt milk.So this new month of Muharram is reminding us to lead a purposeful life doing good, productive work and righteous deeds in order to make the passing moments as reward points secured in our favor thereby making eternal success our destiny and saving ourselves from eternal disaster.

Allah says in the Holy Quran:
“Surely the number of months with Allah is twelve months in Allah’s ordinance since the day when He created the heavens and the earth, of these four being sacred; that is the right reckoning; therefore be not unjust to yourselves regarding them.”[Surah 9 :At-Taubah, Verse 36]

Prophet Muhammad (saw) informed us about the four sacred months in the following narration:
“The year is of twelve months, out of which four months are sacred: Three are in succession Dhul-Qa’ da, Dhul-Hijja and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab…” [Bukhari Vol 004, Book 054, Hadith 419

So Begin the New Year with a fresh resolution and a renewed enthusiasm. Gear up for it physically and mentally by making a resolve to:
  • Strengthen your relationship with Allah Subhaan’o wa Ta’ala
  • Return to your worships with renewed enthusiasm and diligence
  • Improve upon serving your parents well and giving the relatives their rights
  • Refocus on the moral/Islamic upbringing of your family and children
  • Plan further learning and self-development
  • Seek to participate in social work for the betterment of those less fortunate than yourselves in the society
May Allah (S.W.T) help us in utlising our time in the best way.Aameen.

Shaitan Speaks

Iblis (Satan) organised an international conference, which was attended by his followers from all over the world. In his opening address, he said:
“Oh my friends and helpers, we cannot stop righteous, pious people - believers in Allah, from going to the mosques. We cannot stop them from reading their Holy Book and familiarising themselves with the Truth. We cannot stop them from establishing a deep and meaningful relationship with Allah. But remember, if they are successful in establishing this relationship with their Rubb, we will lose our hold on them. Remember, Allah has told me about them:“Indeed, over My (believing) servants there is for you no authority.”

“So let them go to their place of worship and let them continue with their normal routine. But snatch one thing away from them - their time. Then they will not be able to establish the required connection with their Creator. This is what I want you to do. O my followers, make them inattentive and careless in achieving that closeness, that important relationship with Allah, which is the purpose of their existence. Without bonding with Him, their lives will become meaningless.”

The delegates loved every word he said. This mission gave meaning to their lives. They sat up and asked: “How shall we do it, O Master?” “It’s not difficult,” said Iblis. “Just keep them preoccupied and contented with the unimportant, unnecessary things in their lives. Be creative. Invent numerous ways to keep them busy, busy, busy.”

“Incite them to spend extravagantly and then go around borrowing for their needs. Encourage the wives to spend and spend. Plant ambition in the husbands - they must be ahead in the race for money, status, power. Let them work and work 18-20 hours a day, 7 days a week, to compete in fulfilling the demands of their material self. Deprive them of time to spend with their children. As the family gradually becomes dysfunctional and falls apart, their homes will cease to be a source of peace. With the increasing pressure of work, reluctant to go home, they will look for that peace outside. Make their minds so occupied, they will not be able to hear that small voice crying out to them that something is not right.”

“Encourage them to turn on their radios, CDs and cassettes when they are driving. At home, make sure their PCs , TVs , VCRs, DVD Players and radios are operating round the clock. Let their mobile phones ring incessantly. Their minds, numbed by all the activity, will have no time to think of Allah or their duty to worship Him, at least in the way they should. This way their connection with Allah will be weakened.”
“Fill up their tables with magazines and newspapers. Assault them with a barrage of news, so that their minds are constantly occupied. On the road, let them be distracted by massive billboards and ads, tempting them to buy things they don’t need. Flood their mail-boxes with letters and junk mail. Whatever little time they have left, will be taken up by this.”

“In their recreational activities, let them be excessive. When they return home, they will be so tired and irritable, they will remain so the whole of next week. And don’t let them go near nature, in case they ponder and reflect on Allah’s signs in the universe; instead send them to concerts, cinemas, and stadiums. Keep them busy, busy, busy.”

“Convince them that religion is ‘personal’, the inherited beliefs of their ancestors are best and that ‘majority is authority’. Even when they attend assemblies of Allah’s remembrance, keep their minds preoccupied with worldly thoughts. Or let the arguments between religious scholars where each one claims that he is the only one on the right path, make them so disturbed that they will not go to such assemblies again. And make them waste their goods deeds by gossiping and backbiting.”

“March forward my commandos. Busy them in winning each others hearts and flood their lives with so many good aims, they will have no time to ask Allah for help in achieving them. Very soon they will exhaust themselves, sacrificing their health and their family life for these ‘lofty’ goals. This will be good, this will be super, this will be great!”

What a convention it was! Such a roaring success! What a thunderous applause! With great zealousness and enthusiasm, all the delegates – Satan’s forces went their respective ways and got cracking with their assigned tasks.

So Iblis succeeded in his mission and the believers were seen running around here and there, busy, busy, busy.

BE WARNED! Iblis means ‘deprived of hope’, ‘in utter despair’ and his abode is Hell. He has set out to destroy Adam’s descendants, “except for few.” May we, by Allah’s grace, be amongst those who recognise Satan’s wiles and do not fall prey to them.

Gossip

My name is gossip.
I have no respect for justice.
I maim without killing.
I break hearts and ruin lives.

I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age.
The more I am quoted the more I am believed.
I flourish at every level of society.
My victims are helpless.

They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no face.
To track me down is impossible for you.
The harder you try, the more elusive I become.
I am nobody’s friend.

Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.
I topple governments and wreck marriages.
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartache and indigestion.
I spawn suspicion and generate grief.

I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses. I am called Gossip.
Office gossip. Shop gossip. Party gossip. Telephone gossip.
I make headlines and headaches.

Before you repeat a story ask yourself, is it true?
Is it fair? Is it necessary? If not— KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!
If you spend as much time praying as you do talking about others
behind their backs,
you would be further ahead Spiritually.

My Choice

When I walk along the way
The people just stare at me in dismay

They think that I’m forced to wear that “thing”
But actually I wear it for Allah, The King

Maybe they think that I am not free
Just because I wear a headscarf on me

But that’s not true, I am really free
I wear it for Allah, The Almighty

The way we dress is not to show some skin
But for people to judge us not by our body, but from within

They might call me names or even start to stare
But what makes me keep going is knowing Allah is there

So when you pass me walking down the street
Don’t think that I am forced to cover myself up to my feet

It’s a simple way to be modest and humble
So don’t be next to me and start to grumble

I feel proud and tall when I wear my clothe
Because I have nothing at all to show and expose

Now you could only judge my character and my personality
And not of how I dress myself, but for my morality

So this scarf that I have on
Is my choice so don’t be alarmed

I felt right and true when I put my Hijab on from the start
Its because it calmed me, purified me, and soothed my heart

But really the only difference between you and me
Is that I just cover my hair and my body

So if any of you ever see me and hear my voice
Just know that what I wear is only my choice

Tick Tock Until The Death Knocks

The truth is, this life we live is so complex
We never know, nor can we guess what will happen next
Whether if tomorrow will be a guaranteed day
Or even if our next breath will convey
And yet, we live our lives like a bunch of blind mice
Not knowing where we are destined, as if we’d live twice
However, the clock continues to go tick tock
Until you hear from death’s knock.

We ponder upon life giving the hereafter a cold shoulder
Thinking that we can play while younger and pray once we’re older
But no one ever said that you would live to see another day
When was the last time you visited the graves and witnessed this dismay?
From old men to new born babies, haven’t you realized there is no age for death?
Take heed before your time is up and before you’ve taken your last breath
Every soul shall taste death and this is the sure reality
Not a single human or jinn can run away from this calamity

We all need to stop this deep slumber and awaken
Before it’s too late and our souls are taken
While you waste your life disobeying the Lord who created you
Remember the punishment of the grave and hell fire which we know is true
On a day which foul and evil souls are violently retrieved
Then taken to the first heaven to be rejected and aggrieved
The evil soul is thereafter flung down with a mighty throw
This is where the questioning begins 6 feet below

These evil and dirty sins will surely lead us astray
Even worse for those who used to never pray
Death is surely a calamity which we all know is the reality
Still, we’ve all been given a chance to reach paradise with dignity
All we have to do is submit to Allah and commit
Commit to the rules of Islam in this life which they perfectly befit
Then we will be amongst those who are admitted to a beautiful place
With gardens, beneath which rivers flow and full of grace.
